Hairdressing Level 1 Evening (Part Time)

This is an intensive one year course (34 weeks) for students who have no experience and are wishing to gain some basic skills

COURSE

OVERVIEW

The course usually takes place over two evenings a week, it allows you to fit a qualification around work or family life if required. The course consists of practical assessments in a salon environment and allows you to progress your skills with continual supervision and support. You will need to attend on a Tuesday, 5-7.30pm and Thursday, 5-9pm.
This course provides the essential practical skills and knowledge of the theory based within a Level 1 qualification. Practical skills you will learn include, shampooing, blow drying and styling womens and mens hair, setting, plaiting, hair up. You will learn how to provide effective advice and consultation and work as a team.
As part of this qualification you will gain transferrable skills, this will provide you with the opportunity to develop your own personal and social skills. Skills you will develop include communication, verbal and body, mental creativity, problem solving, social and cultural awareness. To enrol on this course, please contact info@kirkleescollege.ac.uk
This course provides an opportunity to gain valuable knowledge and basic skills to prepare you for working in the hairdressing industry, enabling you to achieve an industry recognised qualification. Alongside your level 1 you will also be preparing for level 2 progression. Cutting and colour enrichment will also be delivered as part of the course (not assessed).

No formal qualifications required, however, good level of English, a passion for the industry and a creative flair is essential.
You will be assessed continually, either by observation or project work. The certificate is awarded on completion of a portfolio of work. There is substantial theory work to be completed in your own time and written tests.
A natural progression route would be hairdressing level 2, however barbering may also be an option.
You could gain employment in a salon at a junior level, or at this level you can work in a salon as an apprentice
