COURSE

OVERVIEW

This course enables you to gain an understanding of the health and social care sector and provides you with an introduction to the key areas relating to current practice within the industry.
You will begin to gain an understanding of the variety of social factors that can influence a person’s health and wellbeing through studying the impacts of nutrition, different mental and physical disorders, as well as creative and therapeutic activities.
You will have the opportunity to explore how humans grow and develop throughout their lives and investigate the factors that affect this growth and development.
You will take part in 60+ hours of work placement in order to support the theory you are learning. Placement supports learning by providing opportunities for you to apply knowledge to practice, receive feedback and reflect on your own experience.

A minimum of 4 GCSEs with the following grades: English at 3 or above and maths at 2 or above and 2 other GCSEs at 3 or above. A DBS check is also required. If you have an EHCP then please be aware that the college needs to have agreed, via the consultation period with your local authority, that we can meet the needs outlined in your EHCP before you can start on a course with us.
You will be assessed through written assignments, exams, practical tasks, group work, presentations and reports, which will be discussed with you before you start.

You could find a career in the health and social sector working in one of the following roles: Care assistant with older people or people with disabilities, Nursery assistant, Support worker, Home care assistant, Health care assistant
