COURSE

OVERVIEW

This course will help to develop your knowledge and skills of general animal care, which is vital for anyone wishing to work within the animal care sector.
You will learn about the design and requirements of animal accommodation and undertake practical sessions such as cleaning, health checks and feeding to ensure the animals are safe and healthy.
The animal collection at Taylor Hill is varied and you will develop skills in handling, welfare and health of the different types of animals, for example, reptiles, birds and small mammals. The course also involves a unit which allows you to develop your knowledge and skills in animal grooming. You will focus on grooming dogs and skills in bathing, health checks and grooming.
You will learn about different jobs and how to search for specific jobs in animal care. Work experience forms part of this course and many students work at kennels, catteries, animal grooming parlours, pet shops, veterinary practices and stables.The practical content of the course will require you to wear suitable protective clothing and equipment where required. This will be discussed with you before you start.

This course costs £1,750 for adult learners.
A minimum of four GCSEs with the following grades: English at 3 or above and maths at 3 or above and two other GCSEs at 3 or above. If you have an EHCP then please be aware that the college needs to have agreed, via the consultation period with your local authority, that we can meet the needs outlined in your EHCP before you can start on a course with us.
You will be assessed through written assignments, presentations and practical work and multiple choice exams.
Animal Care T Level Level 3, Employment
You could move on to employment within the industry, including animal collections, kennels, catteries, pet shops, animal welfare establishments, animal grooming parlours and veterinary nursing.
