How can we support you?

Kirklees College is one of the region’s largest apprenticeship providers, with over 1,000 apprentices currently in training.

Offering an apprenticeship opportunity within your business is a great way to support and develop local talent while meeting the needs of your organisation.

Funding is available for apprenticeships and depends on the number of employees you have and your annual salary bill. Employers with a salary bill of over £3 million pay the Growth & Skills Levy. The College will also support you throughout the duration of the apprenticeship.

If you have 49 or fewer employees and a salary bill of less than £3 million:

Apprenticeship training will be fully funded if the apprentice is aged 16-18, or 19-24 and is a care leaver or has an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

If the apprentice is aged 19 or over, is not a care leaver, and does not have an Education, Health and Care Plan, the Government will fund 95% of the apprenticeship training costs.

If you have 50 or more employees and a salary bill of less than £3 million:

The Government will fund 95% of the apprenticeship training costs. The remaining 5% is paid by your company in equal instalments across the agreed training period.

Do all your employees hold formal qualifications in maths and English? If not, is a lack of confidence in these subjects holding them back from professional growth, or have they simply not had the opportunity to upskill?

If you answered yes to any of the above, we invite you to refer your staff to us for an Initial Assessment. Our friendly and experienced maths and English tutors will assess them in a safe and supportive environment.

Following the assessment, we will recommend a suitable pathway: either a short taster course for those who are hesitant about committing, or an accredited Functional Skills course for those ready to progress. Functional Skills qualifications, available from Entry Level 1 to Level 2, provide a structured framework to gradually build essential skills. These qualifications focus on the practical application of maths and English in the workplace and everyday life.

A Functional Skills Level 2 qualification is equivalent to a GCSE grade 4 (formerly grade C). We offer face-to-face Functional Skills Maths and English classes, delivered in 16-week programmes with weekly three-hour sessions.

Additionally, we can provide on-site and/or supported online delivery options, subject to participant numbers.

Sector-Based Work Academy Programmes are an effective way to create a skilled workforce for your business.

They are designed to help you attract and retain high-quality talent to meet your immediate recruitment needs, while equipping candidates with the skills required to sustain and grow your business.

Programmes can last up to six weeks and include:

  • Pre-employment training relevant to your business sector

  • Work experience placement

  • A guaranteed job interview

If you are looking to recruit five or more staff, please get in touch today to discuss how a Sector-Based Work Academy Programme can benefit your business.

Through our innovative and flexible approach, our experienced training team can create a tailored solution for your business, whatever your training requirements.

Whether you need a work-based qualification or a non-accredited course, such as presentation skills or effective communication, we can adapt existing programmes or develop a bespoke course to support your specific goals and the development of your staff.

Training can be delivered at our specialist facilities or at your workplace. Sessions can be tailored for both large and small groups, ensuring you and your employees gain maximum benefit from every course.

The College has launched its online Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses. With over 40 courses available in areas such as health and safety, wellbeing, and personal development, they offer a flexible learning solution to suit your business needs.

All courses are auto-marked, provide instant feedback, and typically take around two hours to complete.
