Our dedicated team hosts a variety of activities to help you decide what your next steps may be after your GCSEs. They are also here to answer all your questions and make sure you get the most out of every opportunity available to you at Kirklees College.

You can meet the team at career events across West Yorkshire, have a chat at one of our many open days, speak to your school and find out more about competitions, taster sessions, and activities, or you can contact them directly.
Kirklees College offers taster sessions in all areas, they are a great way to find out about a subject area and decide it it’s the right option for you. They are open to students in years 9 -13, the booking form can be found at the back of our taster booklet.
If you are unable to attend an open day then the student recruitment team will arrange individual visits where possible, although they usually have to take place during the day. Our team also attend careers conventions across Kirklees, Calderdale and the surrounding areas.
If you don’t get your English or maths GCSE, then you will need to re-sit them as part of your study programme.
Please don’t worry, we are here to support you. If you would like to visit college during a quieter time to see the building and the surroundings this can be arranged. We also offer a quiet early session before open days where students with anxiety can come in to talk to tutors. Just email us here.
Absolutely, open days are a great opportunity to get a feel for the college, see the facilities available and talk to teachers and current students about the courses available and their experiences. We run them throughout the year, all the current information is on our open days page.
Our competitions are a great way to find out more about a subject area and it’s a great way to put your skills to test. Some of them you can enter on your own (e.g. Young Chef, Photography) and others are linked to school curriculum and can be entered by school groups (e.g. Innov8).
Usually yes, your lessons will take place at the same centre. If you are doing Construction at Brunel Construction Centre then all your lessons will take place there. You may have some lessons at our Huddersfield Centre on the days you are classroom based.
If you are studying a BTEC qualification then you may have a few exams, especially at Level 3. However this won’t be the only way your work with be assessed. You may also have written work to complete, groups assignments or presentations. In practical subjects e.g. catering, hair and brickwork, you will usually have practical assessments that will test the skills you have learnt on your course.
Most study programmes are timetabled for 16 hours a week. This is usually over three days but if you are resitting your English and maths it might be more. College doesn’t operate like a school day, you may only have a few hours in college one day and a full day the next.
You will pick one subject and study this full time. Your chosen subject will form part of your study programme which is designed around your individual needs, your education and employment goals.
