Through a combination of on-site employment and off-the-job training at Kirklees College, apprentices will learn how to safely and effectively carry out joinery tasks to meet professional standards.

DESCRIPTION  
  • Assist with the installation of timber components on construction sites
 
  • Carry out first fix tasks such as flooring, wall partitions, and roof structures
 
  • Support second fix work including fitting doors, frames, skirting boards, and stair parts
 
  • Measure, mark, and cut materials accurately
 
  • Use hand and power tools safely under supervision
 
  • Follow health and safety regulations at all times
 
  • Maintain a clean and organised work environment
 
  • Attend college sessions and complete coursework as required
 
  THINGS TO CONSIDER
  • Apprentices must be employed in a bricklaying role to complete the programme
  • The work is physically demanding and involves lifting, bending, and working at height
  • Work is often outdoors and subject to varying weather conditions
  • A strong understanding of health and safety is essential at all times
  • Regular attendance at Kirklees College is required alongside full-time work
  • Early starts and travel to different construction sites may be necessary
  • Progress depends on practical performance, knowledge development, and completion of assessment
  • Functional Skills in English and maths may need to be achieved if not already held

GCSE in Maths and English with grade 2 or above

This apprenticeship combines on-site employment with college-based training to develop essential joinery skills for the construction industry. Apprentices will learn how to install timber structures, use tools safely, and interpret technical drawings while working on real building projects.
Delivered in partnership with Kirklees College, the programme typically lasts 18–24 months and leads to a nationally recognised Level 2 qualification, with opportunities to progress into advanced apprenticeships or full-time employment.
On completion, apprentices will be able to carry out key site joinery tasks safely and to industry standards, including installing structural and finishing timber components. They will have the skills, knowledge, and confidence to work effectively on construction sites and progress into skilled employment or further training within the carpentry and joinery sector. On successful completion, apprentices will achieve a nationally recognised Level 2 Site Carpentry Apprenticeship Standard and will be well-prepared to progress into skilled employment or further training, such as a Level 3 qualification in carpentry and joinery.
