On this course you will learn complex accounting techniques. This will include, maintaining cost accounting records and the preparation of reports and returns. You will master a number of accounting disciplines including financial processes, advanced bookkeeping, final accounts and ethical practices for accountants. Sessions will be one day a week, on Thursdays.
On this course learning is through case studies, group work, individual research and online support. You will develop independent study skills and apply these to realistic assignments throughout the course. Study will include complex accounting tasks, including preparing final accounts for sole traders and partnerships, and how to maintain cost accounting records, preparation of VAT records, cash management, professional ethics and spreadsheets.
Account preparation will be studied, this will include organisation structure and conceptual framework and how to prepare accounts from incomplete records. This unit also includes how to prepare accounts for sole traders and partnerships and an introduction to limited companies. You will also study indirect tax, such as VAT basics, including VAT schemes, returns and administration.
The principals of ethical working and the AAT code of professional ethics are also studied on this course. This will include money laundering, fraud and taxation issues. You will learn both introduction and advanced spreadsheet techniques. This will include controls, security and sharing, data validation, passwords and cell protection data. Also how to manipulate pivot tables, filtering data, subtotals and sorting data.
