Accessibility Statement for Kirklees College

Kirklees College is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

This accessibility statement applies to www.kirkleescollege.ac.uk.

This website is run by Kirklees College. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

• change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser or device settings
• zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen
• navigate most of the website using a keyboard or speech recognition software
• listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to [the non-compliance(s)] [and/or] [the exemptions] listed below.

The tests were conducted using a combination of software; Axe Tools by Deque Systems and manual guided testing.

Non-compliance with Accessibility Regulations

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:

• you cannot modify the line height or spacing of text
• most older PDF documents are not fully accessible to screen reader software
• live video streams do not have captions
• you cannot skip to the main content when using a screen reader
• there’s a limit to how far you can magnify the map on our ‘contact us’ page
• WCAG 2.1.1 Keyboard All content and functionality can currently not be accessed by using a keyboard. We are rebuilding our navigation menu and aim to have this complete within 8 weeks
• WCAG 1.4.10 Reflow At 400% zoom, once expanded, some elements of the website do not reflow to fit the webpage. This will be fixed in the next 12 weeks. If not addressed by the external developer, we will be replacing with an alternative solution
• WCAG 2.2.2 Pause, Stop, Hide You can’t pause carousel items. This will be fixed in 12 weeks. If not addressed by the external developer, an alternative solution will be found
• WCAG 1.4.13 Content on Hover or Focus Content on hover or focus could trigger a new action. This issue will be rectified with the next 8 weeks with the redevelopment of the navigation where the ‘hover’ content appears
• WCAG 3.2.1 On Focus The functionality of the page is not predictable. This issue will be rectified with the next 8 weeks with the redevelopment of the navigation where the on focus issues occurs
• WCAG 2.4.2 Page titled PDF documents have minimal contrast and no descriptive titles. This issue will be fixed within 12 weeks
• WCAG 1.3.1 Info and Relationships PDF content is not tagged. This issue will be fixed within 12 weeks

This statement was prepared on 21 November 2024. It was last reviewed on 21 November 2024.

This website was last tested on 21 November 2024  against the WCAG 2.2 AA standard by the college’s website team.

The test was carried out by Kirklees College. The most viewed pages were tested using automated testing tools by our website team. A further audit of the website was carried out to the WCAG 2.2 AA standard.
