A Kirklees College Sports Coaching student is making a huge impact at Super League side Leeds Rhinos.

Zak Lloyd, currently studying at our Huddersfield Centre, is thriving at college and developing his Rugby League career.  

Since joining us in 2024, Zak has played for Rhinos reserves and academy sides and has appeared on the bench for the first team. He has also trained with the England side. A remarkable achievement alongside his work in college.

When talking about his time on the course and his sporting career so far, Zak said:

“Since I joined the college, the tutors have been amazing.  This has definitely helped me in my rugby as they have an amazing understanding for the game and what is required to succeed in it. “

He has big ambitions for the future as well, aiming to play at the highest level and represent the England team.

Zak also spoke about how his time at Kirklees College is helping him gain knowledge and expertise that will give him a strong academic background outside the sporting arena. He added:

“You never know what’s going to happen, so having the chance to learn new things that will get me to university and help me find a start in an exciting industry.”

Staff delighted with Zak’s progress

Kevin Donovan, Sports Academy Coordinator at Kirklees College, said:

“Zak has shown great potential so far and has the personality to really thrive in the exciting world of Rugby League. I can’t wait to see how his journey with us and then his career progress.”

Zack McComb, Gym Manager at Kirklees College and a semi-professional Rugby League player, has seen first-hand the progress that Zak had made. He added:

“I have really enjoyed seeing how Zak has progressed at college and on his Rugby journey. He has the talent and personality to go and have a fantastic career.”
