COURSE

OVERVIEW

This course combines practical and theoretical skills in chemistry, biology and physics. You will learn about the principles and applications of science and laboratory techniques delivered through weekly experiments in our fully-equipped laboratories.
You will acquire technical and employability skills, knowledge and understanding, all of which are transferable and will enable you to meet changing circumstances in applied science practice. You will also develop a range of personal skills, techniques, and attributes that are essential for successful performance in working life.
The range of modules you will work on will be varied and exciting. You will begin to understand each separate science in-depth and how they can complement each other during experiments. To support your experiments in our laboratories, you will do an investigative project that will underpin the contemporary issues within science.
Work experience is a mandatory part of the course you will be able to gain the skills and knowledge of how science has evolved in the work place. To complement your learning, you will have the opportunity to go on a number of visits and field-trips.

A minimum of 5 GCSEs with the following grades: English and maths at 4 or above and 3 other GCSEs at 4 or above including a science subject. If you have an EHCP then please be aware that the college needs to have agreed, via the consultation period with your local authority, that we can meet the needs outlined in your EHCP before you can start on a course with us.
You will be assessed with coursework, practical assignments and examinations.
Higher Education including degrees in pharmacy, audiology, optometry, chemistry and forensics Apprenticeship Employment
You could find employment in a scientific and technical area, for example laboratories and production research and development.
