COURSE
OVERVIEW
Guided by an experienced tutor, you will learn a variety of bookbinding and paper-craft techniques using different papers, card and hand tools. Through step-by-step instruction, you will design and construct bespoke creations while developing practical skills and creative confidence.
Explore creative surface techniques including collage, layering, embossing, texture-making and image transfer to add visual interest to your work. Learn how to measure, cut and fold paper accurately, and experiment with a range of paper engineering methods, including accordion folds, gate folds, concertina books, tunnel books and simple pop-up mechanisms.
You will also be introduced to a variety of binding methods, such as pamphlet stitch, Japanese stab binding, and simple non-stitched bindings, discovering how different structures can transform the look and function of a book.
Alongside traditional book forms, you will create three-dimensional, sculptural and interactive book designs that encourage creative storytelling and personal expression. No previous experience is required, and all materials are provided.
This course will run on Tuesdays, 5.30pm – 8.30pm
