COURSE

OVERVIEW

This course is accredited by the awarding body SEG and will give you the opportunity to try out a number of basic counselling skills. You will develop and understanding of ethical practice, boundaries issues and learn some counselling theory.
You will study the professional context of counselling. On this unit you will develop an understanding of what counselling is. You will learn about the importance of creating the right environment and the right ethos for the helping relationship to be successful.
You will also explore effective communication skills used in helping relationships. You will demonstrate a range of listening and responding skills to establish and develop close interactions.
Towards the end of this course you will have the opportunity to reflect on your personal development and identify areas for improvement in the future.

This course costs £435. To find out if you are eligible for funding, please email customerservices@kirkleescollege.ac.uk
There are no formal entry requirements but a good level of English is required as this course is part assessed on your written work. You must complete every section of the college’s application form and pre-interview task to a satisfactory standard.
You will compile a portfolio of evidence that shows achievement of all the learning outcomes assessment criteria.
After this course you can apply to progress onto the Level 3 qualification
This course provides an overview into counselling and required further study to enter the counselling profession
