Early Years Practitioner Apprenticeship Level 2 (October 2026 Entry)

COURSE

OVERVIEW

As an apprentice Early Years Practitioner, you will be responsible for supporting child-initiated and adult-led activities based around the needs and interests of each individual child. You will support children’s learning through planned, purposeful play opportunities and educational programmes and working as part of a team to ensure each child feels safe and secure.
As an apprentice Early Years Practitioner, you will also support the observation and assessment of children and contribute to their learning experiences and assist with the care needs of the individual child.
During the qualification, you will have the opportunity to put these skills into practice with at least 12 months of workplace experience in the industry. Your assessor will arrange a variety of workplace observations to assess your practice.
English and maths Level 2 Functional Skills forms a mandatory part of this apprenticeship and must be achieved before end-point assessment. Face to Face delivery in college will take place on the last Thursday of the month. Calendar dates will be provided on sign up.

Grade 3 and above in English Language and three other GCSEs at grade 3 and above. You can be 16 years old to apply for this apprenticeship but it is at the discretion of the employer whether they are willing to hire a 16-year-old apprentice. To start your apprenticeship you must have secured employment that the college has agreed is suitable.
The end-point assessment for this apprenticeship involves a professional discussion and knowledge test. You will be required to complete a portfolio of work and a variety of placement observation to enable you to progress onto Level 3 or achieve a Level 2 Licence to Practice.
