Engineering and Manufacturing Level 1

This course will give you a broad introduction to the different types of engineering disciplines. It will help you to decide which area of engineering and manufacturing you would like to pursue in the future.

COURSE

OVERVIEW

This introductory level course will introduce you to a range of different engineering and manufacturing disciplines. You will develop skills in cutting, forming, machining and assembling engineering materials and building electronic circuits. This course also includes an introduction to the maths and science principles that are essential to engineering studies.
This introductory course will also enable you to develop skills in managing your study and your approach to learning, along with how to prepare for a career in engineering. You will continue to study GCSE English and maths alongside this course.
You will study this course in our Engineering Centre, based in Huddersfield. This is a purpose-built centre and is used for the training of engineering and manufacturing students. It boasts excellent facilities with the latest equipment in industry standard workshops.
This study programme will also enable you to engage with local employers through a range of activities, including industrial visits, guest speakers and mock interviews. The course may also include at least 30 hours of work experience, where you will be placed with a local engineering company to gain some ‘real world’ experience.

A minimum of 4 GCSEs with the following grades: English at 2 or above and maths at 2 or above and 2 other GCSEs at 2 or above ideally including a science or technology course. If you have an EHCP then please be aware that the college needs to have agreed, via the consultation period with your local authority, that we can meet the needs outlined in your EHCP before you can start on a course with us.
There is a combination of practical assessments, written assessments and in-class exams.
Engineering and Manufacturing Level 2
You could take up a position as trainee technician in computer aided draughting and design, mechanical and electronic fault diagnosis and repair.
