Engineering Technician (Technical Support) Apprenticeship Level 3 (September 2026 Entry)
This apprenticeship will support you to develop skills in providing technical support and expertise for all areas of the Engineering and Manufacturing function.

COURSE
OVERVIEW
Technical Support Technicians provide technical support and expertise for engineering and manufacturing services, including communications software, test, analysis tools, measurement, off line programming, process control, performance and continuous improvement solutions, capacity planning, production scheduling/planning, product technical applications and capability, technical sales and marketing support, product development and innovation, engineering drawing, purchasing and/or supply of goods or services for engineering activities, quality control, inspection and e-commerce technologies.
You will learn mathematical techniques, formula and calculations, as well as the methods and techniques used to evaluate technical data and documentation and how to identify that the data and documentation being used is current and up to date. You will learn how to make changes to issued documentation, how to source other areas of technical expertise/information and understand the requirements of the customer and support them appropriately.
You will learn to produce and amend technical documentation that contains all the relevant and necessary data required. You will then present this in the required format and ensure that codes, symbols and other references used follow agreed conventions.
As an apprentice, you will follow assurance control procedures, develop effective business and/or customer relationships, provide technical advice and guidance to others and contribute to the business by identifying possible opportunities for improving working practices, processes and/or procedures.

Entry Requirements
A minimum of grade 4 or above in GCSE English, maths and a science or technology subject.
To start your apprenticeship you must have secured employment that the college has agreed is suitabler.
Assessment Methods
You will be assessed by a combination of course work and assignments, practical work and exams. The end-point assessment will involve a portfolio based occupational competence interview and professional assessment using a performance indicator report form.
