Fabrication and Welding Programme Level 2

This course is an introduction to Fabrication and Welding, skills will be obtained in TIG, MIG, sheet metal work and engineering drawing. This has a progression route into the Level 3 Metal Fabricator Apprenticeship.

COURSE

OVERVIEW

This Level 2 course will develop the practical skills you will require to gain an apprenticeship in Fabrication and welding. You will develop skills in cutting, forming, welding and assembling welded and fabricated components/materials.
You will develop skills in TIG welding (Tungsten Inert Gas Welding), MIG welding (Metal Inert Gas Welding), sheet metal work, engineering drawing, health and safety and communications.
You will study this course in our Engineering Centre, based in Huddersfield. This is a purpose-built centre and is used for the training of engineering and manufacturing students. It boasts excellent welding facilities with the latest equipment in industry standard workshops.
This study programme will also enable you to engage with local employers through a range of activities, including industrial visits, guest speakers and mock interviews. The course will also include at least 30 hours of work experience, where you will be placed with a local engineering company to gain some ‘real world’ experience.

A minimum of grade 3 in maths and English. If you have an EHCP then please be aware that the college needs to have agreed, via the consultation period with your local authority, that we can meet the needs outlined in your EHCP before you can start on a course with us.
There is a combination of practical assessments, written assessments and in-class exams.
