COURSE
OVERVIEW
Our Functional Skills courses focus on the skills needed in everyday work and social situations. They help develop practical maths skills and allow you to apply these to a range of realistic everyday situations. Whether you need to learn how to calculate percentages for work or balance your personal finances, Functional Skills Maths will focus on practical maths skills used in everyday life. Our courses are available at three levels (Entry Level 3, Level 1 and Level 2) and all aim to build on your current skills.
At Kirklees College, we understand how difficult returning to college in adulthood can be. Study skills may need development, undiagnosed learning difficulties can become evident, anxiety around assessments is common, and for most adults, returning to education is not only about their own aspirations, but also about their family’s wellbeing. That’s why at Kirklees College, we believe in a holistic approach to your education.
Modules covered include critical thinking skills, goal setting skills, interview techniques and help with greater independence. They are user-friendly and compliment your maths qualification where you will learn new skills to increase your confidence in a wide range of knowledge, skills and understanding of mathematical methods and concepts. The course will ask you to explore areas such as numbers, algebra, geometry, measure and probability.
Classes will take place in various community centres in North and South Kirklees, including Ravensthorpe Community Centre, Dewsbury and Manorfield Infant & Nursery School, Batley.
The first session of this course will be an assessment and classes will start the following week.
