COURSE

OVERVIEW

This course has been designed to introduce you to a wide range of practical skills that will allow you to begin a successful and exciting career in the hairdressing industry, including developing your visual skills when displaying retail stock.
You will gain skills and knowledge about the large variety of services available within the industry, such as applying temporary colour, shampooing and conditioning and the creative skills involved in the art of dressing hair.
As you advance your practical skills during the course, you will also develop your knowledge of the different types of hair and the health and safety requirements to effectively run a salon, as well as how to present yourself in a professional environment.
You will be able to learn within our purpose-built hairdressing and beauty salons stocked with all the essentials to create your desired looks. Our salons are open to the public, so you will be working within a professional environment from the start of your course. Students will practice on real clients and may also practice treatments on other students on the same course at Kirklees College.

A minimum of GCSE English and maths grade 1 or above. It is also expected that students complete their current course of study to the best of their ability and maintain a positive approach to continuing their studies. If you have an EHCP then please be aware that the college needs to have agreed, via the consultation period with your local authority, that we can meet the needs outlined in your EHCP before you can start on a course with us.
You will be assessed through observations of practical ability, treatment plans, written assignments, external tests, online learning and completion of a portfolio of work.
Level 2 Hairdressing Level 2 Barbering Apprenticeship
On completion of your Hairdressing studies you can progress on to a career in the industry.
