COURSE
OVERVIEW
This nationally recognised qualification is designed for experienced teaching assistants who want to progress into a Higher-Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) role and develop advanced classroom support skills. This course is suitable for learners aged 16+ who are currently working or volunteering in a school setting as a teaching assistant. The qualification includes 36 credits across seven mandatory units and requires a minimum of 50 hours of work placement or practical experience in a relevant educational environment.
Throughout the course, you will gain practical knowledge in child development, special educational needs (SEND), behaviour management, curriculum planning, and supporting individual learners and small groups. The programme is ideal for those currently working or volunteering within a school environment and looking to increase their confidence and professional responsibilities.
This qualification combines theoretical understanding with real workplace practice, helping learners build the skills needed to support teaching and learning effectively. You will explore inclusive education, communication strategies, assessment methods, and ways to create positive learning environments for children and young people.
Successful completion of this course can open doors to career progression within education and provide a pathway into further teaching qualifications. Whether you are aiming to become a Higher-Level Teaching Assistant or enhance your existing classroom expertise, this course offers the knowledge and practical experience needed to succeed. Lessons will take place on a Thursday evening.

This course costs £1,044. You will be assessed to see if you qualify for fee remission.
Entry Requirements
It is recommended that learners have a minimum Level 2 qualification in English and maths, or equivalent.
Assessment Methods
Assessment is completed through coursework, workplace observations, practical evidence, assignments, and portfolio-based tasks rather than exams.
