COURSE
OVERVIEW
Develop your understanding of how the legal system in England and Wales operates by exploring the roles of legal professionals, judges, magistrates and juries. You’ll examine the criminal and civil court systems, follow the journey of cases through the courts, and learn how justice is delivered through criminal trials, civil proceedings and tribunals.
Explore the structure of the police service and the powers officers use to investigate crime. You’ll learn about police ranks, specialist and territorial forces, lawful arrest and detention, stop and search powers, searches of premises, and the rights of suspects under the law, applying your knowledge to realistic legal case studies.
Investigate a range of criminal offences, including crimes against property and offences against the person. You’ll follow the prosecution process from preparing a case for trial to sentencing, examining the roles of legal professionals, the courts and the different sentencing options available within the criminal justice system.

A GCSE in Maths and English is required.
Assessment Methods
100% coursework. This course is assessed by a variety of coursework methods including written reports, mind maps, presentations and scenario-based learning.
