COURSE

OVERVIEW

This course is suitable if you are interested in developing a career in the motor industry, whether you want to maintain and repair different types of vehicles (cars, vans, trucks, or even motorcycles), fit and replace parts and tyres, run your own car valeting business or work on hybrid vehicles safely.
This course is suitable if you would like to develop practical skills and broaden your understanding of motor vehicle systems and more generally in developing others in the industry. You must already be working with minimum supervision and have a good record of safety, fault correction and ensuring work meets the required standard.?
You will learn how to fault find using diagnostic equipment, standard servicing, repairs and maintenance and fit and service accessories like stereos and alarms. You will be able to road test vehicles to check repairs and be competent in telling customers what repairs are needed and estimated time and cost for these.
Under the guidance of our expert tutors who have worked in the industry themselves, you will have access to state-of-the-art equipment in our purpose-built workshops. You will also have the opportunity to complete a work placement to give you experience of working in the motor vehicle industry.

Grade 4 GCSE in English and maths. You will need to have already completed a Level 2 in Light Vehicle or be an experienced worker. If you have an EHCP then please be aware that the college needs to have agreed, via the consultation period with your local authority, that we can meet the needs outlined in your EHCP before you can start on a course with us.
You will be assessed through practical tasks, oral/written questioning, assignments and online tests.
Employment as a technician, fitter or MOT inspector.
