COURSE

OVERVIEW

On this course, you will study a specialist machining route alongside the core units to prepare you for a future career in engineering, manufacturing, processing and control. The qualification will give you a detailed insight into the engineering industry.
You will cover topics such as: processes of production and manufacturing, materials used in production, manufacturing and fabrication environments, specialist machinery utilised in the production and manufacturing environments and product and project management.
This technical qualification focuses on the development of knowledge and skills needed for working in the engineering industry, which will prepare you to enter the industry through employment or as an apprentice. You will also have access to cutting edge manual and CNC machinery and CAD facilities, as well as tuition from industry experienced lecturers.
In the second year, you will be supported in finding an industry work placement (minimum of 315 hours), to develop your knowledge and understanding of working as an engineer further and strengthen your future prospects of employment. You will be able to apply the core learning from your course to workplace scenarios during your placement.

A minimum of 5 GCSEs with the following grades: English at 4 or above and maths at 5 or above and 3 other GCSEs at 4 or above including a science or technology course. If you have an EHCP then please be aware that the college needs to have agreed, via the consultation period with your local authority, that we can meet the needs outlined in your EHCP before you can start on a course with us.
You will be assessed through synoptic practical assessment, theory-based exams and an employer-set project.
HNC/HND, Apprenticeship, Degree
This qualification allows you to progress into roles such as a mechanical engineer, electrical and electronic engineer or civil engineer.
