This four-week targeted employment programme is designed to equip participants with essential practical skills, industry awareness, and employability competencies for entry into the construction sector. The programme is delivered by Kirklees College with direct employer input from ESH Construction, ensuring alignment with current industry expectations and real-world job standards. Learners will participate in practical workshops, core health and safety training, and employability sessions. ESH Construction contributes specialist input, mock interviews, and insight into construction career pathways.
During your first week,you will cover basic setting out and drainage skills, learn how to construct a basic Inspection Chamber. You will continue working on this in your second week, and also cover basic flagging skills. In your first and second weeks, you will also cover health and safety, and every week of the programme will include an Employability Skills Session with ESH Construction.
In week three youw will cover basic block paving and kerb laying. In week four, you will continue to learn about health and safety and have a final Employability Skills session, as well as a mock interview with ESH before your real interview with the company, which you will have upon completing the programme.
By the end of the programme, you will have gained hands-on experience across a range of construction trades, developed key employability skills required by construction employers, built confidence through employer-led activities, including mock interview and have an improved readiness for apprenticeships, traineeships, and entry-level construction roles. You will be in class three days a week on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday (9am – 4pm) and Thursday will be a dedicated independent study day.
