This four-week targeted employment programme is designed to equip participants with essential practical skills, industry awareness, and employability competencies for entry into the construction sector. The programme is delivered by Kirklees College with direct employer input from Keir Construction, ensuring alignment with current industry expectations and real-world job standards. Learners will participate in practical workshops, core health and safety training, and employability sessions. Keir Construction contributes specialist input, mock interviews, and insight into construction career pathways.
During the first week, you will focus on the Health and Safety Foundations of Construction. Moving onto covering a range of basic skills, including wall and floor tiling, painting and decoration and plumbing. Keir Construction will also come in to do Employablity Skills Sessions. In your second week, you will continue looking at health and safety, and move on to more skills, including basic joinery, plastering, bricklaying and more Employability sessions.
In week three, you will cover basic electrical and landscaping skills (paving and concreting), learning about health and safety throughout, plus anothe Employability session. In your final week, you will also have your mock interview with Kier Construction, as you prepare for your real interview with the company at the end of your programme.
You will have three face-to-face sessions per week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday at Brunel Construction Centre in Huddersfied. Each session will run from 9am – 4pm, and Thursday will be a designated independent study day.
