Work Skills provides a learning environment for every student that is personalised, inclusive, safe, enjoyable and challenging with appropriate support and guidance to enable them to develop academic, personal and employability skills. The course content includes English and maths, preparation for work experience placement, participation in a work experience placement, PAD, weekly work-based activity at Bradley Woods Activity centre and enrichment activities.
This course is designed to meet the needs of individual students and has a strong practical focus. The course provides a unique opportunity for students who require a longer transition into college life.
Students will learn to identify their own strengths and areas for improvement whilst learning to recognise their own behaviours in challenging situations. Students will develop an awareness of social and cultural issues as well as learning about sources of help and support. The course encourages self-advocacy, team work, responsibility, self-management, communication, problem-solving and building positive relationships.
The focus is primarily on helping students to recognise the importance of education. We support students to develop personal, social, emotional and employability skills, engage in college life, prepare for progression and the next stages at college.
