Welcome to the first Parent/Carer Newsletter of the 2026/2027 Academic Year.

Here you will find a welcome from the Kirklees College Principal, some good news stories from our college community and some more important updates.

Huddersfield Train Station Temporary Closure

If a young person gets the train to college, please be aware that Huddersfield station from 19 September until 4 October while the Transpennine Route Upgrade completes major work.

Train services from Huddersfield towards Manchester, Sheffield, Leeds and York will be impacted during this period.

Diversions & replacement buses:

Most trains will run via Brighouse Station where a bus service will be in place to transport customers to and from Huddersfield.

Students are advised to check their journeys before they travel at nationalrail.co.uk. For more information about the closure, visit the Transpennine Route Upgrade website by clicking here.

Swap don’t drop!

If your young person is concerned that they have chosen the wrong course, tell them not to worry! Kirklees College is here to help them find the right full-time course.

Please advise them to speak with their tutor as soon as possible. There will also be opportunities for students to speak with our experienced careers team.

College attendance: MIMO

It is really important that students maintain high attendance levels to support them in achieving the best possible grade in their course.

MIMO stands for ‘Miss It Miss Out’ and is our absence reporting system at Kirklees College.

English and Maths Courses for Adults

Looking to gain your GCSE or Functional Skills qualification? At Kirklees College, we offer a range of English and Maths classes, at our centres in Huddersfield and Dewsbury, and across local community centres in Kirklees. If you are interested in joining a course, please email info@kirkleescollege.ac.uk

Review Week: Reflecting on your young person’s progress

Review Week will take place during the week commencing Monday 12 October 2026. During this week, students will have the opportunity to reflect on their progress so far and discuss their next steps.

Students will continue to follow their normal timetable, including maths and English lessons. They may also be invited to attend a progress review, catch-up session, enrichment activity or a meeting with parents/carers where additional support or discussion would be helpful.

Enrichment activities during Review Week will help students develop skills beyond their main programme of study.

These may include opportunities linked to civic engagement, arts and culture, outdoor learning, sport and physical activity, wider life skills and future progression.

If your young person is invited to a review, catch-up session or parent/carer meeting, please encourage them to attend and take full part.
