Kirklees College is hosting its annual Employability Week (1 – 5 March) as part of National Careers Week to empower change through careers education and encourage positive action around supporting the future workforce.
As a vocational college, Kirklees College is passionate about helping students to gain the skills they need to progress in their chosen career, putting equal emphasis on occupational qualifications and employability skills development.
The Careers team will be running virtual events to help students build their work skills and consider their career prospects through live online presentations with the some of the region’s largest employers, ask employment questions, understand what employers look for in an employee and insights into apprenticeships.
The college will be working in partnership with national and local companies to offer students an insight into a variety of career options, including Lloyds Bank, Kirklees Council, Yorkshire Water, RAF, O2, West Yorkshire Police, Northern Power Grid, Wates and the Army. Students will also have the opportunity to attend mock interviews with some employers to gain experience in a real-life context.
As well as employment opportunities, the week will also cover routes into higher education for those wanting to progress in their studies to degree level. The Higher Skills and Higher Education Virtual Open Days will allow students to attend live webinars about the college’s HNC/HND courses, Access courses and higher apprenticeships.
As part of the week, the Careers team will also be hosting team talks covering employability skills to help students improve their job prospects such as CV’s, job searching and interview techniques.
