Sumayya Joggee is another fantastic advert for how returning to education can help change your life.
Before returning to education, Sumayya hadn’t studied for several years before a job as a Teaching Assistant inspired her to make a life-changing decision.
Sumayya said: “A year before I started at Kirklees College, I was working as a Teaching Assistant with SEND students, which inspired me to go into clinical psychology to specialise in working with neurodivergent individuals.”
To begin this new journey at Kirklees College, she enrolled on the Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Behaviour That Challenges before eventually progressing onto Level 3 Access to HE Diploma in Health Sciences online. All of this was achieved whilst maintaining employment.

She added: “The Access course was invaluable; it taught me how to carefully manage my workload as well as develop my academic skills. From this, I still support SEND and SEMH learners, and I’m also a women’s youth coach!
“It was my first stepping stone for my new career; it elevated me and gave me the confidence I was so lacking. The tutors are like no other; without Kirklees College, I wouldn’t be at the stage I am today.”
Your next chapter at Kirklees College
In July 2026, Kirklees College launched its ‘Your Next Chapter’ video. This highlights the meaningful impact of adult education at the college.
Start on a pathway to higher education
The Access to Higher Education (HE) Diploma is a qualification that prepares students for degree-level study. Courses are designed, in particular, for people who have been out of education for some time, especially those who left school with too few qualifications.
Visit the Access to Higher Education section of the Kirklees College website for more information.
