Lauren Bower, who joined Kirklees College as a multi-skilled technician within the Creative Industries department earlier this year has been named Young Yorkshire Trader of the Year through the National Market Traders Federation.

Lauren specialises in hand-crafted art deco-inspired homeware, using digital technologies including 3D printing and traditional mould-making techniques.

On 30 July, nearly 30 young traders took part in the Yorkshire Young Traders Market held at Doncaster Market and the 10 who received awards are all eligible to take part in the National Final at Stratford-upon-Avon over the August bank holiday weekend.

Lauren Bower won the overall prize for impressing the judges with her handmade home and giftware.

Lauren said:

“I am thrilled to have won this award, it proves that there is still a space out there for hands on making and creating”
