This week, Kirklees College was proud to celebrate the achievements of three Animal Care students who progressed from a level 1 course through to level 5 HND.

Joshua Hunt, Louie Turner and Sarah Coombes, who are now qualified in Animal Management, were presented with certificates to recognise their outstanding progress by Palvinder Singh, Principal and Chief Executive and Stephen Finney, Curriculum Area Manager at Kirklees College.

The Taylor Hill Animal Care Centre is an award-winning, specialist eco-centre that houses a wide range of animals, including an aviary, aquarium, mammal house and reptile unit, to offer learners hands-on experience. The centre has recently been expanded with the addition of new classrooms to accommodate the increased demand for Animal Care and Land-based courses.

Speaking about his experience at Kirklees College, Louie said:

“I have enjoyed my course because I get to interact with animals every day. The tutors are really helpful, and are always there to provide support if I am stuck on something. The facilities at Taylor Hill are fantastic and well maintained. I really enjoyed studying at Kirklees College.”

Sarah commented:

“Taylor Hill has a wide variety of animals which meant I could experience different animal environments first-hand. There is a handy library at Taylor Hill and plenty of computers available. Kirklees College provides a wide range of courses, which you can study in a supportive and safe environment, to prepare you for your chosen career.”

Joshua added:

“The tutors are highly knowledgeable and really supportive. The facilities are amazing, there are so many different species of animals and I learnt many aspects in husbandry which aided my assignment work. The once in a life opportunity to visit South Africa was my favourite part of the course.”
