Kirklees College has recently hosted two Create end-of-year shows at the college’s Pioneer Higher Skills and Huddersfield centres.

The events brought together college staff and students alongside parents, carers, and friends, who were able to see firsthand the creativity of many Kirklees College students across Creative Industries, Hair, Beauty and Barbering, and Catering and Hospitality.

A closer look at two amazing events

On Thursday 17 June, Pioneer Higher Skills Centre hosted the first event. Art & Design students from Levels 1 – 3 showcased their work to friends, family, college staff and special guests.

The following week at Huddersfield Centre, students in Creative Industries, Hair, Beauty and Barbering, and Hospitality and Catering also had the opportunity to showcase their work and talent.

The work of Art and Design and Creative Media students was on display throughout Huddersfield Centre, showcasing students’ work produced throughout the year, including on live work experience briefs with big names, such as Oxfam.

During the same event, students from our Hair, Beauty and Media Makeup showcased their creative ‘looks’ in two catwalk shows.

They were also joined by students from Horbury High School, who recently competed in the college’s Hair and Beauty Unleashed Competition, where local schools came into Kirklees College to compete in an eras-themed competition where they had to design hair, makeup and outfits from scratch. Barbering courses also got involved by running a pop-up Barber Shop.

Throughout the night, Hospitality and Catering students wandered round the exhibition serving amazing food had made themselves. They also prepared a variety of welcome drinks, which guests enjoyed on the sunny balcony of college restaurant, Landings 72.

Kirklees College Principal Palvinder Singh said: “As this year draws to a close, I am continually inspired by the achievements of our students. The work that was on display at the Create Showcase event was a true testament to the quality of training they have received from our staff and a sign that many will soon be ready to make the next step into their relevant industries. At the heart of Kirklees College is a commitment to creating opportunities and changing lives, and I’ve just witnessed more examples of this here.”
