With the uncertainty currently surrounding the exam period, Ofqual has now set out details for colleges, students, parents and carers on how GCSEs and A-levels will be awarded following the cancellation of this year’s exams.
For this summer’s awards, the college has been asked to provide centre assessment grades for our students. These grades will be fair and objective and take in to account the grades that we believe students would have been most likely to achieve had they sat their exams. Judgements will be made based on classwork, any non-exam assessments, mock or previous exam results and records of student performance.
Ofqual has reassured students that exam boards will do everything they can to make sure that, as far as possible, grades are fair and that students are not disadvantaged in their progress to sixth form, college, university, apprenticeships, training or work because of these unprecedented conditions.
Results will not be delayed after the expected dates in August and will ideally be released slightly earlier, so students can have the certainty they need. Students will also be allowed to appeal where appropriate.
