Kirklees College is the first college to partner with Film Buddy, an online platform for creatives designed to bridge the gap between education and industry. Founded by Ben Sweet, who is based in Huddersfield, the platform aims to support young talent and provide opportunities to students from all different backgrounds.

Last Friday, Level 3 Music, Media and Performing Arts students, who are working on a live brief with Film Buddy to create a youthful, upcoming music video that showcases the potential of talent from 16-19 age bracket, went to the Film Studios in Huddersfield and attended a RECCE day.

The RECCE day allowed the students and members of Film Buddy to look at the suitability of the space for filming, plan and gain some guidance from creative industry and filming professionals.

The group came up with a plan for a new innovative music video, taking into consideration location, equipment and time. The Music and Media students will work with Performing Arts students to create some innovative scenes within the music video whilst the Music students perform the song and Media students capture the footage.

In attendance were Fergus Hattan, a well-established videographer, film producer Shane Hamill, technician Andrew Bohannan and Director of Film Buddy Ben Sweet.

Emma Crosland, Work Placement Employer Liaison Officer for Creative Industries said:

“We are really grateful for Ben Sweet, Director of Film Buddy’s vision of supporting new talent and bringing opportunities to young people. I am really excited about this project. They are receiving some fantastic guidance and learning essential skills from industry professionals.”
