Hands-on satellite and CubeSat engineering projects will allow students to apply what they have learnt in a practical and engaging way.

They’ll also have the chance to take part in national space competitions, helping them challenge themselves and showcasing their skills alongside students from across the country.

Guest speakers will also connect students directly with the UK space industry, giving them valuable insight into real careers and developments within the field whilst trips and networking opportunities will help them broaden their experiences.

Trips and networking opportunities with space organisations broaden their experience and build useful connections for future careers.

Along the way, students will develop practical skills in areas such as mechanical engineering, electronics, embedded systems, programming and satellite communications, helping them build the knowledge and confidence needed for further study or a career in the space and engineering sectors.

The thoughts of the staff leading the course

Aftab Hussain, Higher Education Programme Lead for Engineering at Kirklees College, said: “The space sector is one of the most exciting and rapidly developing industries, creating new opportunities for the next generation of engineers and scientists. At Kirklees College, we are proud to introduce the new pathway of HNC/HND Space Technologies for England course, giving students the opportunity to develop specialist knowledge and practical skills in areas such as satellite systems, electronics, programming and space communications.

“Through hands-on projects and opportunities to engage with organisations such as UK Students for the Exploration and Development of Space (UKSEDS), students will gain valuable real-world experience and insight into the growing UK space sector.”
