The Kirklees College Project SEARCH interns recently came together to celebrate their achievements and successes over the academic year.
Over 50 additional people attended the event, including Kirklees College Principal Palvinder Singh and Councillor Karen Allison, Mayor of Kirklees, alongside parents, carers of students and a number of key employers who were involved with the project.
The main highlights of the ceremony were speeches made by the students alongside a special video that showcased their experiences.
Felicity Clark, Project SEARCH Curriculum Lead and Skills Tutor, said: “The graduation was a wonderful way to celebrate the successes of our students over the last twelve months. Seeing their progress over this time has been amazing.”
“A huge thank you as well to all of the guests, including the employers, whose support over the academic year has been invaluable.”
What is Project SEARCH?
DFN Project SEARCH is a unique, one-year transition-to-work programme for students between the ages of 18-25 with learning disabilities or autism and an EHCP.
It is targeted for students whose goal is competitive employment within the local community. Opportunities on the programme are varied and can include customer service, hospitality and catering, maintenance and gardening, and business support. Students participate in three internships, otherwise known as ‘rotations’, to explore a variety of different career paths and are supported by a skills tutor and job coach.
