Kirklees College is celebrating the spirit of the World Cup through a series of football fundraising challenges and a charity-focused staff vs student match, bringing students, staff, and the wider community together, highlighting the power of unity and teamwork.

Taking place across college sites in Huddersfield and Dewsbury, the World Cup football challenges have encouraged participation, healthy competition and student engagement, while raising funds for the Pennine Domestic Abuse Partnership. The initiative also aims to raise awareness of the increase in domestic abuse incidents often seen during major international football tournaments, using this platform to promote support and solidarity within the community.

The activities have provided students with opportunities to get active, connect with peers and celebrate international sport in an inclusive and welcoming environment. Running over a two-week period to mark the start of the tournament, it will conclude this week, marking a focused period of fundraising and celebration aligned with the global excitement of the World Cup.

The highly anticipated staff vs students’ charity football match at Leeds Road Playing Fields saw a strong turnout and enthusiastic support from across the college community. The match not only showcased talent and teamwork but also reinforced Kirklees College’s ongoing commitment to charity and giving back.

“Love’s got the world in motion, and I know what we can do…”

This initiative forms part of the college’s wider approach to embedding its core values of kindness, unity and excellence, using sport to create meaningful connections and positive experiences for students. By bringing people together through a shared passion for football, the college continues to strengthen community cohesion and celebrate the diversity of its student population.

Jax Lovelock, Personal Development Manager at Kirklees College, said:

“Events like these are about much more than football. They create opportunities for students and staff to come together, build relationships, and celebrate our diverse college community. The fundraising element and charity match show how we can give back while creating memorable and meaningful experiences for our students.”

Aligned with global World Cup celebrations, the activities have inspired participation, promoted wellbeing, and strengthened connections both within the college and across the wider community.

Kirklees College remains committed to delivering opportunities that support active lifestyles, inclusivity, and community engagement, ensuring all students feel part of a vibrant and supportive environment. Visit the Student Support section of the Kirklees College website to find out more.
