Work Experience Month is a celebratory collaboration of leading organisations, aiming to improve the quality and frequency of meaningful Work Experience and virtual Work Experience programmes for learners across the UK.

For many students at Kirklees College, work experience is their first opportunity to experience a real workplace, build confidence, develop employability skills, and gain an understanding of different career paths. These placements can have a lasting impact, helping young people make informed decisions about their future.

For employers, offering work experience is more than giving something back to the community. It provides an opportunity to nurture future talent, introduce fresh perspectives into the workplace, and showcase your organisation to the next generation of employees.

Dawn Turner, Business Development at Kirklees College, said: “If you’re considering offering work experience, now is the perfect time to get involved. By opening your doors to a young person, you could help shape their future while strengthening your own workforce pipeline. Every career starts somewhere, and for many people, work experience is the first step.”

A recent announcement by West Yorkshire Mayor Tracy Brabin that every young person in West Yorkshire will be guaranteed a taste of work by the age of 18 was welcomed by Kirklees College as this is something that the college plays a huge level of importance on.

See below for two examples of how the college provides students with these career-enhancing opportunities.
