Kirklees College Xplorer students have been working with Invictus Wellbeing to identify mental health topics and produce podcasts designed to support young adults.

Between February and May, Kirklees College partnered with Invictus Wellbeing to deliver a ten-session project with students across Huddersfield. The project focused on co-creating a suite of digital resources designed to help young people overcome health-related barriers that can impact their transition into employment.

Throughout the programme, each student identified a specific health barrier affecting young people and developed a podcast episode exploring the topic. Over the course of the sessions, students researched their chosen subject, created scripts, and built their confidence in presenting and interviewing. Each episode featured an expert guest from Invictus Wellbeing, providing valuable professional insight and guidance.

The project concluded with a celebration lunch, where students had the opportunity to share their completed episodes, reflect on their achievements, and celebrate the skills, knowledge, and confidence they had developed throughout the programme. The partnership with Invictus Wellbeing provided a meaningful opportunity for students to explore important health issues while developing communication, research, and employability skills.

Students loved taking part in the project

One said: “I have gained confidence in talking in front of people. I am really thankful to get this opportunity.”

Another added: “I learnt more about how each and every young person has problems and difficulties. It showed me how even though there are difficult moments in life that we face, there is always a way out of it.”
