Kirklees College has been celebrating the success of adult learners who have completed their Maths and English qualifications.
One student, Dimah Alkhalaf, achieved an incredible grade 9 in GCSE Maths. Dimah was the only person in the college to achieve this, having worked exceptionally hard throughout the year.
Toni Nikina Strowger narrowly missed out on a grade 4 last year, but after displaying even more commitment over the last academic year, she successfully achieved that.
Students share their thoughts on the skills they’ve developed
Daniel Haigh struggled with these subjects at school but thanks to what he described as “really supportive” tutors at Kirklees College, he completed his Maths GCSE by achieving a grade 4.

Albana Alkazraji studied for a GCSE in Maths alongside her Supporting Teaching and Learning Diploma. She is now looking forward to progressing in her career. Speaking about her experience at the college, Albana said: “The extra revision sessions were all really helpful. It allowed me to build on the knowledge I gained in the classroom.”

Faustyna Dyniewiczn studied Functional Skills English alongside a Level 2 Certificate in Health and Social Care, having previously completed a Level 1 Certificate in Childcare. She had and had some advice for those wanting to return to education. She said: “It’s never too late to progress in life and to teach yourself new things. There’s also so many nice people at the college who will help you.”
Shaukat Ali studied Functional Skills Maths and spoke about the nice learning environment saying: “The group in my class was great. Everyone was really friendly and helpful.”
Zain Robertson completed his Maths GCSE last year and has since progressed onto Access to Higher Education. Zain added: “I would recommend Kirklees College to anyone wanting to study Maths. They helped me a lot.”
Melissa Sykes, Head of Maths at Kirklees College, said: “I am so proud of all our students for achieving such fantastic grades. I’d like to give a special shout-out to our adult learners. Many initially find it difficult to return to education after a long time. However, many of them have done amazing, and I can’t wait to see what they do next.”
